We are thrilled to share the news that some worthy recipients have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list announced on Monday 13 June 2016.
Professor Jim Best, of the JDRF Australia Board of Directors, has been awarded an AO (Officer in the General Division).
Professor Best has been recognised for his distinguished and longstanding contribution “to medicine, particularly in the area of endocrinology, to medical education as an academic, researcher and administrator, and to rural and Indigenous health”. Congratulations, Jim. We look forward to our continued work together.
Peter Wilson, former JDRF Australia Vice-Chair and member of JDRF International Board, was awarded an AM (Member in the General Division). Our congratulations go to Peter for this richly deserved acknowledgement to his “significant service to the community through contributions to a range of social welfare, health, sport and charitable organisations.”
Also recognised in the Honours List is long-standing supporter, volunteer, and champion of JDRF in Melbourne, Bev Dillon. Bev has been part of JDRF’s growth in Victoria since its inception, and has driven substantial fundraising success through a number of campaigns. Bev was awarded an OAM for “service to community health through diabetes research organisations”.
We also extend our congratulations to The Hon. Judi Moylan, Chair of Diabetes Australia, and former Chair of the Parliamentary Diabetes Support Group, who was awarded an AO for “distinguished service to the Parliament of Australia and the community of Western Australia, particularly through the promotion of the status of women and advocacy for those with diabetes”. During her time in Parliament, Judi was instrumental in supporting JDRF initiatives, including the Kids in the House advocacy event, and securing funding for T1D research.
