The legendary moustachioed cricketer, known as Beefy, captained the England side in the 1980s, and is regarded as one of the game’s finest all-rounders ever. Since retiring from the cricketing arena, Beefy has spent a large amount of his time fundraising for charities close to his heart; from golf days and sporting dinners to clay pigeon shoots and head shaves and not forgetting his legendary Charity Walks.

As father to a daughter, Becky, with type 1 diabetes (T1D), JDRF has always been a charity close to Beefy’s heart. He feels his efforts are not complete without strapping on the walking shoes on Australian soil.

We’re thrilled to welcome Beefy to four capital city JDRF One Walks in November and December. Becky will also be joining him on his Australian journey. With the experience of living with brittle type 1 diabetes, and becoming a mum to two healthy boys, Becky has an inspirational story to tell.

Through Beefy’s appeal as a cricket legend, JDRF is proud to partner with 9 Cares, the charitable arm of Channel 9.  In mid-July, a TV ad for JDRF One Walk featuring Beefy began airing around Australia. You’ll also spot some of our JDRF Victorian supporters who lent their talents during the shoot.

This is the first time ever that JDRF has had the opportunity to promote the JDRF One Walk in the mainstream media on such a large scale. We hope to not only deliver this amazing community event to more people than ever, but to also raise awareness of type 1 diabetes and encourage living rooms conversations all around Australia.
