Meet Rebecca, from Team Cure Diabetes
Rebecca Gray is taking on her first 10km ever, at Run Melbourne. Rebecca has already raised more than $2,800 for type 1 diabetes research, and hopes to reach $3,000.
“I’ve had type 1 diabetes since I was seven. As I’ve gotten older I’ve realised that the key to success with my diabetes is exercise. I have committed to lots of running events and physical challenges to keep me motivated. When I saw there was an opportunity to run at Run Melbourne and raise money for JDRF my first thought was “Why not?” So here I am!
The hardest part of the challenge I think will be the training and actually running 10km. My longest run I have ever completed is 8km. But I’m definitely up for the challenge!
All the support I have received from the people around me is keeping me motivated. I come from a small country town where word travels fast and the support is endless. Between me and my amazing partner, our fundraising efforts have already blitzed my initial $1,000 fundraising goal!
10km seems like a long way, and it probably does to a lot of people, but if there is one thing I have learnt when it comes to physical challenges, it’s that it’s all about having a go! Having a go is pretty much my life quote. Being a school teacher means that it’s a quote that comes in handy every day. A few years ago, I never would have imagined I would have been able to run 2km, let alone 10km! You can do anything if you put your mind to it. And if you fail, you can only learn from your mistakes and push on.”
So what are you waiting for? Lace up the runners and start telling everyone you know that you’re on a mission to help achieve a word without type 1 diabetes!
